Students at Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School create Pop Art!

Art Troupe students created a Pop Art permanent collection piece using the artistic foundations they learned from Kindergarten through fourth grade. Some of these foundations include: value, blending, pattern, rhythm, movement, balance, unity, variety, color, line, and texture. Romero Britto, a Brazilian neo-pop wall decorator, painter, serigrapher, and sculptor is known for his contemporary art. He combines stereotypical elements of Cubism, pop art, and graffiti painting in his work. Students were interested in how Britto's work made the viewer feel happy and wanted to create a similar effect. The students created flower paintings based on Britto's "Botanical Garden", adding their own creative twist. Each student’s piece will be joined together to create the larger permanent collection work. The subject of a flower was chosen to symbolize happiness and joy. (REAMS newsletter Jan. 2018)
