Magnet Lottery and Application

Magnet Prioritized Lottery Application Timeline, for school year 2026-2027:


October 15 - December 17, 2025 — The Magnet Prioritized Lottery Application Portal is Open, Round 1

  • Families may submit an application for the possibility of their student(s) being offered a spot to attend a magnet school that is NWSISD-supported

Prior to January 9, 2026 — Magnet School Application Lotteries are Performed, Round 1

  • ​The magnet application lottery priorities are run through the portal’s algorithm which follows the NWS/member district’s board approved policies & state approved A&I plans​

Prior to January 14, 2026 — Student Assignments are Communicated, Round 1

  • Families and sites are notified via email of which students have an opportunity to access open magnet seats (via the round 1 lottery) at their first/second choice magnet and/or who have been waitlisted

January 21 - March 11, 2026 — The Magnet Prioritized Lottery Application Portal is Open, Round 2

  • Families may still submit an application for a possibility of their student(s) being offered a spot to attend a magnet school that is NWSISD-supported​

February 18, 2026 — Deadline to Accept/Register for Offered Spots, Round 1

  • Deadline for students who wish to accept the first/second choice magnet seat offered in round 1 to have enrolled in with magnet school/district

Prior to March 20, 2026 — Magnet School Application Lotteries are Performed, Round 2

  • ​The magnet application lottery priorities are run through the portal’s algorithm which follows the NWS/ member district’s board approved policies & state approved A&I plans​

Prior to March 26, 2026 — Student Assignments are Communicated, Round 2

  • Families and sites are notified via email of which students have an opportunity to access open magnet seats (via the round 2 lottery) at their first/second choice magnet and/or who have been waitlisted

April 15, 2026 — Deadline to Accept/Register for Offered Spots, Round 2

  • Deadline for students who wish to accept the first/second choice magnet seat offered in round 2 to have enrolled in with magnet school/district

Prior to April 22, 2026 — Waitlists Finalized​

  • ​Randomized waitlists are auto-populated in the magnet portal for districts/sites to access​

NWSISD offers magnet schools from grades K-12 in three themes; Arts, International Baccalaureate, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEM/STEAM).  ​​
